VGI Gravity High Quality Field Procedures

MAINTAIN QUALITY DATA

Maintain quality data with VGI gravity experience that includes an understanding of geophysics ground conditions and how to avoid one of many low quality gravity station as indicated above. VGI can maintain high quality geophysical data in the field by adjusting a station's position and verifying the gravity measurement by calculating, using cell phone software, the provisional in-field calculated bouguer gravity with :

  • Identifying low quality gravity stations with our experienced P.Geo. assessing each station as indicated above, moving a gravity station a few meters, and measuring a stable and repeatable gravity measurement without returning for a time consuming and costly repeat.
  • Identifying an unknown low quality station area ( unstable ground, low density cultural ) with our experienced PGeo. verifying a questionable gravity measurement with VGI's provisional ( no base station correction ) calculated in-field bouguer gravity check*, calculated on a cell phone, that may require a station adjustment or an extended repeated reading.

* Provisional calculated in-field bouguer gravity is achieved by entering raw gravity into a field tablet or cell phone with previously collected elevation data.  As the survey progresses, a provisional calculated bouguer gravity ( no base station correction ) for each station can be checked and compared to previous stations ( 3 point running average ).

ACCURATE TERRAIN CORRECTIONS

VGI can achieve accurate terrain corrections in-field by measuring both gravity and elevation variations within a distance of 25 meters.  With 25 meter detailed survey stations, hidden elevations changes are observed along the survey line, measured, checked for accuracy, and included with the terrain corrections.

Above Visual Example;

  • Station 1 raw gravity measurement, taken by an in-field PGeo. who has viewed previous raw gravity measurements with a similar "provisional in-field calculated bouguer gravity" *.
  • Station 2 gravity measurement is noted by the in-field PGeo. to have a significant high gravity increase that can be due to the local area low elevation or is a low quality measurement. Validation of this high gravity measurement is achieved by converting the raw gravity measurement to a provisional calculated in-field bouguer gravity* that should give a value comparable to station 1.
  • Station 3 raw gravity measurement is similar to station 1 with its provisional in-field bouguer gravity calculations comparable to stations 1 and 2.

* "Provisional calculated in-field bouguer gravity" is a bouguer gravity that is calculated without a drift correction ( no base station correction ) and is used for in-field quality control.  This in-field geophysics calculation is achieved by entering raw gravity data into a field tablet or cell phone with previously collected elevation data.  As the survey progresses, the provisional calculated bouguer gravity for each station can be checked and compared to previous stations ( 3 point running average ).

EFFICIENT QUALITY PROCEDURES

VGI has efficient cost saving geophysics survey procedures from years of experience and innovative thinking.  The "123 Setup" ( leap frog ) is one of many methods that reduces survey time and your bouguer gravity survey costs.

Above Visual Example;

  • At station 1 the leap frog starts. The assistant picks up the gravity stand and walks with the gravity operator ( PGeo. ) to station 2 where the assistant carefully takes the gravity meter off the the gravity operator's back. While the gravity operator takes a gravity measurement at station 2, the assistant continues to station 3 ( leap frog from station 1 to station 3 ).  At station 3 the assistant sets up the tripod ahead of the gravity operator and walks back to station 2.
  • At station 2 the assistant waits.  After the gravity operator completes the measurement, the assistant carefully lifts the backpack with gravity meter onto the gravity operators back.  The assistant picks up the gravity stand and walks with the gravity operator to station 3 where the assistant carefully takes the gravimeter off the the gravity operator's back.
  • While the gravity operator takes a gravity measurement at station 3, the assistant continues to station 4 ( leap frog from station 2 to station 4 ).  At station 4 the assistant sets up the tripod ahead of the gravity operator, returns to station 2 and waits., repeating the 123 setup.

Local Gravity Map 25 meter Interpretation

VGI gravity map interpreted with 25 meter station resolution reveal narrow bouguer gravity highs within a large dominate bouguer gravity high.

  • The 25 meter station resolution and the validation associated quality control field procedures discussed in the above section help identify, verify, and validate the adjacent narrow bouguer gravity trends.
  • With the observed narrow 25 m to 50 m gravity highs validated, they are interpreted as high density features striking north along the east and west edges of the dominate gravity high.
  • Further investigation of the center bouguer gravity high should include 25 m station coverage of the adjacent parallel north striking gravity trends that may represent additional parallel geophysical high density features of mineral potential.

 Customized Local Bouguer Gravity Surveys

VGI offers detailed local bouguer gravity surveys within your target area.  VGI gravity surveys can help you select your targets with 25 m gravity stations.  A small but detail geophysics survey can give an accurate detailed gravity model that may reveal a high density VMS along a high density mafic or discriminate a VMS from graphite.
